In the most commonly used meaning, design thinking is the way designers solve problems by understanding users` needs and developing insights to solve those needs. When taken to the fullest, it is as much of a mindset as a process. Typically, it is characterized by the notion that only through contact, observation, and empathy with end users one can hope to design solutions that fit into their environment.
Leading institutions, such as Apple and Samsung, have started to look at design as an approach for management. Back in the fifties, the legendary IBM CEO Thomas Watson Jr. used the term “good design is good business.” From the point of view that intersects design and management practices, this may be something worth looking at when developing and deploying a solution to problem presented in your organization.
